‘Terrorists Now Overrun Abuja Under Buhari’s Watch’
A pressure group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has berated the President MuhammaduBuhari-led administration for its leadership failure in securing lives and property in the country.
The group further stated that it was tragic that the National Assembly was so compromised and pocketed by President MuhammaduBuhari to the extent that the legislature was playing the ostrich whilst the implosion and collapse of Nigeria becomes imminent.
In a statement in Abuja, yesterday, its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, said it was shocking that the speculation that there was a sinister plot to allow Islamists overrun Abuja and declare Nigeria as an Islamic Republic was becoming a reality even when this was assumed to be a road side and beer parlour empty talk.
Onwubiko said terrorist attacks in the country’s seat of power, the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, show that Nigeria’s security architecture has been completely sabotaged.
He further said it was unimaginable that President MuhammaduBuhari has jetted off to Liberian capital to lecture them on security when, infact, the federal capital of the nation he governs was under immense threats by armed terrorists.
HURIWA wondered why the president has gone elsewhere to talk about security when his nation was about to be destroyed by terrorists.
The group said the Buhari government has failed woefully in its cardinal responsibility to protect the people as shown by attacks in the FCT under his watch.
HURIWA, therefore, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a national guard and also give arms and ammunition to a adults without criminal records to defend the nation unless there is truth in the rumour about a deal to hand over Nigeria to Islamists.
“It is shocking and shameful that terrorists have overrun the country’s seat of power whilst Nigeria’s President, a former military major general, watches on,” Onwubiko lamented.
HURIWA said there was no basis for the National Security Adviser that has failed to be kept in office, and also the entire internal security institutions headed by Fulanis have sold out and sabotaged the national security interests of Nigeria.
The group described as disgraceful, the killing of a captain and two soldiers by terrorists on Sunday night in the Bwari area of Abuja.
The captain and the two soldiers were attached to the seven Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army but were reportedly ambushed after they visited the Nigeria Law School in Bwari following a hint that terrorist had mobilised to attack the school.
The Minister of Education, AdamuAdamu, subsequently ordered the immediate closure of the Federal Government College, Kwali, located at Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
The FCT Administration also ordered the immediate closure of all schools in Abuja by Wednesday.
Tension-torn parents had, last Monday, evacuated their wards from the hostel of FGC Kwali, following the alleged threat by bandits to attack the school.
HURIWA then wondered why the president has not been removed or told to resign.
On July 5, 2022, members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked the Kuje prison in Abuja and freed hundreds of inmates, including suspected members of Boko Haram.
Also, terrorists responsible for the March 28 attack on a Kaduna-bound train recently released a video of them whipping their victims and threatening to kidnap the President and Kaduna State Governor, Nasirel-Rufai.
Commenting on the sad development, Onwubiko said, “Nigerians are perturbed that terrorists have cowered security forces and now operate freely unchallenged. This is a gross failure of the regime of President MuhammaduBuhari.
“The show of shame in the name of breaches of security in Abuja by terrorists, their battles Guard Brigades which is the elite military wing of the Armed Forces, and the apprehension that has engulfed schools in the FCT are shocking to many.
“The Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces must wake up. Terrorists are overrunning the seat of power and even establishing cells. The president cannot afford to take an ‘I-don’t-care’ pose.
“The terrorists even threatened to abduct him and are gradually working out their threats by paralysing the security apparatus of the FCT. Buhari must fire all service chiefs, the National Security Adviser, the Defence Minister and other top chiefs under whose watch terrorists have overrun Nigeria like Afghanistan. These persons should be prosecuted for allegedly sabotaging national security.”
