All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the Senate has nominated the Senator representing Sokoto East District,  Senator Ibrahim Gobir, as the new Leader of the Senate.
Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan, made the announcement on Wednesday at the commencement  of the plenary around 1.20pm after about two hours closed doors session by the lawmakers.
The letter reads, “With reference to your letter No.: NASS9thS/SP/D/12/ dated 16th June, 2022, in which you informed the party of the vacancy of the office of the Senate Leader of our party.
“Accept herewith, the party’s nomination of Senator Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East Senatorial District) as replacement for the Senate Leader and Chairman of the APC Caucus.
“While thanking you for the usual cooperation, please accept the assurances of our best regards.”
Senator Gobir replaced the former Senate Leader, Abdullahi Yahaya (Kebbi North), who has since defected to the opposition, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over  differences between him and the Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu,  which escalated  over conduct of the APC primaries  in the State.
The new Leader resumed duty immediately after his name was announced, while he was congratulated by the Senate President, who urged him to discharge his duties diligently.
