The Rector of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola in Rivers State, Dr Samuel Kalagbor, has said that the ongoing Rector Football Competition in the school would create an avenue to discover players for the state.
He revealed that previous editions of the tournament have exposed many students that are good footballers to the limelight.
Dr Kalagbor made the assertion on Monday, when he declared open this year’s edition of the competition at the school field in Port Harcourt.
According to him, most of the students who played well in previous editions and performed excellently in their academics are now ambassadors of the institution.
“I believe that players who will participate in this competition will have an opportunity to play at the national and international level. But don’t forget the school when such opportunity comes, always remember where you start from” Dr. Kalagbor told the players.
He disclosed that prizes for the overall winners for both female and male categories, best players, well behaved team, best goalkeepers and highest goal scorers in the competition were up for grabs.
The Rector charged participating players to exhibit true spirit of sportsmanship and play by the rules.
“It is unfortunately that the tournament was put on hold due to outbreak of Covid 19, now the pandemic is over we will continue where we stopped” he stated.
The Rector commended all the students and advised them to exhibit true spirit of sportsmanship in the tournament.
