The Technical Manager of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma has said that winning the Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL) this season is a big achievement for the State and beyond.
He expressed his excitement at winning the NPFL with high points and three matches left in 2021/2022, season, adding that this was same record he set with Dolphins FC (now Rivers United)
Eguma made this known at the weekend in his post match interview with sports journalists shortly after his side defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 in match day 36 of the NPFL at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt.
He noted that winning the League title was not an easy task knowing that they are going to play 38 matches and every club wants to win the title.
The number one coach in the State further said that the victory over Kano Pillars was hard earned, noting that Pillars came with high hopes to run away with points as they applied different tactics to approach the game.
“From onset we knew we were going to play 38 matches and we also knew that they were all very important.
“We agree we are on top of the table but we have to ensure we maintain that momentum.
“We know Pillars came all out to pick at least a point from the game. If not for the efforts our defenders, they would have achieved their aim.
The victory was hard earned” Eguma said.
He equally used the forum to thank the governor of the state Barr. Nyesom Wike for his financial support, the management, players and the supporters of the club who have been following them team throughout the tournament, for their contributions.
“To me it is a big achievement and for my players because most of them have not won the league title before” he stated.
