Worried by the role some of its members played during the recent purported crisis rocking the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC ), the leadership of the Public Service Joint Negotiating Council (PSJNC) has suspended Comrade Emecheta Chuku as chairman, and Comrade Danagogo June as vice chairman of the council with immediate effect.
The State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council (RSPSJNC), comprising 1,11,and 111,subsequently appointed a chartered accountant, Dr Godwin Williamson; and Comrade Orupabo Emmanuel, as acting chairman and acting secretary while Elder George Jonah was allowed to remain as the treasurer of the council, respectively.
They are to oversee the affairs of the union for three months.
The council, in a four-point communiqué, issued at the end of their meeting held in Port Harcourt, last Thursday, and signed by 12 members of the council, comprising state chairmen of NUPPPPPROW, AUPCTRE, NUPSRAW,MHWUN,NANNAM and NCSU and their respective secretaries, who are statutory members of RSPSJNC, also passed vote of no confidence on the suspended chairman and his vice chairman for their refusal to call and even to attend council meeting.
According to the resolution, the action was taken on the two principal officers of the council based on the unconstitutional roles and actionsthey took with other SAC members of NLC that led to the purported imposition of Comrade Emecheta Chuku as the embattled acting chairman of NLC.
The communiqué, however, passed a vote of confidence on the state leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) ably led by Comrade Beatrice Itubo, for their pragmatic leadership in the state, and congratulated Itubo on her emergence as gubernatorial standard bearer of Labour Party in the state.
It, therefore, urged the new leadership of RSPSJNC to, within the three months’ period, coordinate the actives of the council, and advised members of the public to take note of the new development in the council.
