NEMA Takes Flood Sensitisation To Grassroots In Rivers
In continuation of 2022 flood sensitisation and awareness campaign, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-South Zone, has carried out flood sensitisation and awareness campaign in communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The exercise, which was aimed at addressing the predictions for 2022, centred on mitigation, preparedness and response to flood.
The campaign was organised in collaboration with the Ahoada West Local Government Council, the Community Development Committees (CDCs), youth and women leaders in 21communitites namely, Mbiama, Ogbologbolo, Akinima, Okogbe, UlaOkobo 1, Odiereke, Ihuechi, Ubeta, Odiokwu, Oyigba, Uyakama, Ogbede, Okarki, Idu-Ekpeye, Egboma, Odhioghor, Odhiolugboji, Upatabo, Ikodu, Ubio and Owube.
The chairman of council was represented by the Secretary to council, Hon. Agri Ezekiel Friday.
The sensitisation programme was to take the message of this year’s flood management to the grassroots and communities directly in the frontline of the impending flood hazard.
The occasion was used to advocate for the set-up of Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) in the LGAs.
Participants also agreed to take the message home to the grassroots.
They assured also that they were better informed to manage their flood risk better in 2022.
