First Love Assembly Women Screen Over 100 For Cancer
As part of their annual women week, the Women Fellowship of the First Love Assembly has screened over 100 women in the city for cervical and breast cancer.
The weeklong programme which is the vision of wife of the Overseer of First Love Assembly, Mrs. Ruth Simeon Afolabi to reach out to less privileged women and church members to curb the menace of cancer.
Mrs Lois Aduke told The Tide Metro that the programme is the third in the series so far.
Aduke who is the chairperson of the Women Fellowship told The Tide Metro that the initiative has been a major success, and that this year is unprecedented.
She said the essence of screening for cancer is to reduce the healthcare delivery gap as a lot of women in the society are not aware that they can have cancer.
Though she said the church is poised to check the menace of cancer, she stated that the women are providing support to women who are screened and those that need further medical checks.
“Those who are found to have the ailment are expected to be given assistance by the church,” Aduke assured.
For now, she stated that what the women fellowship does is to raise awareness, and provide support to those women who need assistance.
To achieve this, she said the church provides medical screening at subsidised rates.
The First Love Assembly Women Fellowship leader decried poor medical care for noncommunicable disease like cancer and urged government to intensify effort in reaching to the grassroots.
Aduke further called on public spirited individuals, organisations and NGOs to help close the gap in healthcare delivery in the country.
