2023: Community Leader Cautions Youths Against Financial Inducement
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a community leader and philanthropist, Elder Eredor Nwako, has cautioned youths in Rivers State and Nigeria in general to be resolute and resist the antics of politicians who are out to use financial inducement and other deceptive strategies to deceive them and undermine their constructive participation in the political process.
Elder Nwako gave the caution while speaking to newsmen shortly after being bestowed with an award of excellence and formally inducted into the membership of the National Patrons Board of the Rivers Youth Federation by the state executive of the body at the Police Officers Mess in Port Harcourt.
The honoree who is a grassroots mobilizer and promoter of youth affairs, said youths were the targets of politicians to be used to achieve electoral fraud and cause other forms of social disorder.
He, therefore, called for vigilance on the part of the youth and pointed out that “the time has come for youth to be active participants in democratic transition by voting candidates of their choice rather than being supceptible tools in the hands of politicians and being dumped after”.
He said the political environment was tense and heated up but equally offers hope for Nigerians, especially the youth to secure their future by getting their PVCs and voting massively for candidates of their choice in the general elections.
Elder Nwako who is also the Chairman of the Patrons Board of the Khana Chapter of the Federation thanked the body for the honor and stated that it would spur him to continue to render selfless services to the youth and humanity in general.
He further, advised the youth to, “make use of their creative vigour by developing and applying special skills to enhance sustainable livelihood rather than living at the mercy of politicians for seasonal peanuts”.
In his remarks, the National President of the Rivers State Youth Federation, Comrade Oscar Saviour, said the honoree was considered for the award because of his contributions to youth development and other philanthropic gestures to humanity.
Comrade Saviour who commended the Khana Chapter of the Federation for their commitment towards intensive grassroots sensitisation against electoral violence assured that other LGAs would be mobilised to carry out the anti-election violence campaigns.
On his part, the President of the Khana Chapter of Rivers Youth Federation, Comrade Neemene Kpugisi, said the phase two of the anti -election violence campaigns would commence soon.
