The new Rivers State Commander, National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Ahmed Mamuda, has said that the agency’s fight against illicit drugs and other related substances would succeed, if traditional rulers and others are involved.
Mamuda said this when he paid an advocacy visit to the Paramount Ruler of Rumuogba Kingdom, Eze Temple Ejekwu at his palace in Rumuogba in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area recently.
He said the move was a collaborative force in the war against drug abuse, especially at the community level.
The Rivers NDLEA boss, also said that his team and himself were at the palace to create synergy and deepen the collaboration between the community and the para-military agency .
“Our visit is to enable us create a synergy and deepen the collaboration between the NDLEA and the community in championing drug free society”, he said.
He maintained that the the relationship already existing between the community and the agency will not be abused since it was its host community.
In his response, the Rumuogba monarch, said that the palace and the community were prepared for the collaboration so far as it was intended for the good of the society.
The ruler assured him of any assistance that might lead to the success of the war against drug abuse given the level of damage it had caused among young people.
“The doors of the palace are always open to welcome your team and you at any time. We are peace-loving people and cannot kick against anything tailored for good”, he said.
Ejekwu who was conferred with ‘The Ambassador Of The War Against Drug Abuse’ by the NDLEA team, further assured that through his new office, the war against drug abuse would get the needed attention.
Members of the Rumuogba Council of Chiefs and Elders, women and youths of the community as well as friends of the palace were among those that graced the occasion.
