South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana is confident that Bayana Bayana will dethrone Nigeria at the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations next month, Tidesports source reports.
The 12th WAFCON will hold from July 2 to 23 in Morocco with 12 teams competing for the title.
From five meetings at the WAFCON tournament, the Falcons have won three encounters while the Bayana Bayana has been on the winning side twice.
Both teams will meet for the sixth time at the 2022 WAFCON championship in Morocco and Kgatlana believes the export of Bayana Bayana talents to Europe in recent years will bridge the gap in their encounter at the Prince Moulay Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat.
“I think for a number of years Banyana hadn’t exported a lot of players overseas and that has given Nigeria and other teams the upper hand because they were able to export players,” the Atletico Madrid forward told Tidesport source.
“But then things are starting to look good and exciting for Banyana because we have a number of overseas-based players, that means they are training every day, physically and mentally, at a high level.
“I think for a number of years Banyana have struggled because they were not able to export players but things are looking positive now.”
