Rotary Clubs Empower 253 Women, Youths In Rivers
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Passport, District 9141 and the Rotary E-Club Hamburg-Connect, District 1890, have empowered 253 women and youths in Obuama in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State with various skills.
Addressing the beneficiaries after a one-month training on their various skills, Governor of the Rotary International, District 9141, Andy Uwejeyan, congratulated them for successfully completing the training.
While inspecting some of the products crafted by the beneficiaries, he commended them for being focused through out the training, and advised them to use the skills gained to improve their source of livelihood, and also create jobs for others.
On her part, President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Passport, who spoke on behalf of the Rotary E-Club Hamburg-Connect, Preba Babalola, said the aim of the project is to support the vulnerable and displaced families in the midst of the economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The women and youths were trained in fish farming, poultry, snail farming and bead making crafts. The impact of the project is that the youths will have access to education and basic necessities, using the immediate and long term sustainable livelihood interventions.
“Big thanks to our Rotary Leaders and members of different Districts who came out to support our club. Together we Serve to Change Lives”, she said.
The project, tagged “Community Empowerment and Skills Development in Response to COVID-19”, is a globally grant project.
