Rivers PDP Ready To Work With Genuine Interest Groups – Akawor
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, has restated that the doors of the party remain open to all groups who genuinely want to work with the party to promote its ideals and agenda.
Ambassador Akawor made the position of the party known when members of the PDP Media Vanguard, a Social Media influencer group, paid him a courtesy visit, last Friday, at the state party secretariat in Port Harcourt.
The PDP Chairman told members of the organisation to feel free to interact and relate well with the party for better understanding of what they can offer.
“In politics people show their intetest and indicate areas they can contribute. We are willing to work with you, but we can only have confidence in you if we have your background. The party will need to know more about you to be able to work with you very closely”, he said.
He commended them for offering to work for the party, noting that they are the right avenue to get messages to the people at the grassroots.
“NGOs like you are the right group that can send messages to the grassroots because you have the reach and the appeal and penetrate the nooks and crannies of our constituencies’’, he stressed.
Ambassador Akawor explained that what transpired between the group and security agents during the Governorship Primary was due to communication problem.
‘’Yes, it was like we had a problem initially but as we observed that, we watched the political environment. You have to be careful of who is coming from where because in politics the most dangerous thing that can happen to you is for your enemy to be deployed as the umpire of the game. If your enemy is the umpire in a football match, passing a ball in the centre of the field can be a penalty. Its your word against he’s’’, he said.
Earlier, the founder and leader of the group, Hon Kate Obuseh, said they were at the PDP Secretariat to congratulate Ambassador Desmond Akawor and members of his executive for the leadership they had given the party since their inauguration and to pledge their readiness to work with the party across board.
