Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt have advanced to the final of this year’s Rivers State AITEO Cup after recording a narrow 1-0 victory against an emerging football force in the state, Khana FC in the second semifinals on Thursday at Sharks Football Stadium, Port Harcourt.
The pride of Rivers striker Nyima Nwagua scored the only goal with an excellent header from a well tailored cross from Ebube Duru in the 28 minutes into the first half.
Speaking with Tidesports shortly after the game, Head coach of Khana FC Sam Ledor said that his side gave a good account of itself, conceding only one goal against the Premier league table toppers. “So far so good, they have tried by playing against Rivers United and conceding only a goal”.
According to him, he was so impressed with the performance of his players against the big boys of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and it is something worth celebrating.
“To me I see it as a big plus for my team that just started two months ago and to play against one of the big clubs in the NPFL.
So far so good, it is a good one but there are certain things we need to do in the team.
It’s not too long we started this team I believe that very soon we are going to be a team to beat.
We have few players and our target is to sign more players and work on them for us to achieve our goal” Ledor said.
