Rainfall Destroys Building, 17 Persons Injured In Yobe

Not less than 17 persons have sustained varying degrees of injuries following a heavy downpour in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
Executive Secretary, Yobe Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Muhammed Goje,  disclosed this to newsmen in Damaturu, yesterday.
Goje said the downpour which occured at about resulted flooding in communities within the metropolis, leading to building collapse.
The injured victims, according to him, include six adults, seven children and four infants.
“Around 12:30 midnight of Sunday after a heavy rainfall in Damaturu, which resulted to flooding in communities behind white House and Ali Marami areas, Yobe SEMA received a distress call of building collapse with children and infants trapped in the collapsed building.
“With the support of volunteers, SEMA was able to evacuate all the 17 victims from the four affected households.
“The victims are currently on admission and receiving medical treatment free at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu”, he said.
Goje lauded the medical team at the State Specialist Hospital’s Accident and Emergency unit for their tremendous efforts in responding to the victims.
