Police Arrest Man Over Defilement In Rivers Community
The police at Ozuoba Police Divisional headquarters in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have arrested and detained one Preye for allegedly defiling his female lover’s nine-year old niece for over four years in secret love affairs
The Police were said to have effected the arrest at the weekend following a formal complaint made by the family of the nine-year old girl at the police divisional headquarters in the area .
Speaking in an interview with journalists at their residence, at Ozuoba Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State on Monday, Mr Boma Totty, an uncle to the female rape victim said the suspect (Preye) in December, 2019 visited his fiancée’s house in her absence and allegedly defiled the lover’s niece who was nine year old then.
Totty further alleged that the suspect brought out calabash and other fetish items from his vehicle and administered oath of secrecy on her with a charge that she and her family members would die if she disclosed what transpired in order to put fear on the poor girl.
According to him, the suspect had continued to sexually harass, molest and defile the minor for almost four years until the family members got wind of it through the change of behaviour of the victim.
“The minor is spending money and upon interrogation, the minor who is getting to 13 years by 2022, disclosed that it was Uncle Preye, the auntie’s male lover who had been showering her with money, gifts and having carnal knowledge of her for years”.he stated
The victim’s uncle averred that it was the girl’s confession and revelation that triggered the arrest of the suspect when he came to visit his female lover (the minor’s aunty) on Sunday night, adding that he was presently being detained at Ozuoba Police Division.
He therefore, called for thorough investigation into the matter so that justice would be served on the matter.
When contacted on the matter, the Acting spokesperson of the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said the command was yet to get the full briefs on the matter .
The Chairperson of Legal Care Advocacy Foundation, Jane O.A. James, while reacting to the incident ,called on the police to ensure thorough investigation on the matter and noted that if the suspect was found culpable, the organisation would follow up to ensure that justice was served.
