Military Personnel Urges Govt To Honour Promoted Officers
A top ranking Army officer has said that his colleagues and himself are yet to be honoured by the Rivers State Government after their ascension to higher ranks in the Nigerian Army and sister security outfits in the country.
The Officer, who refused to mention his name, said this when he spoke in an exclusive chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday.
According to him, such honours do not only act as a morale booster, but a huge source of encouragement to those who are desirous of joining the military.
He also explained that the military was enough home to groom disciplined citizens who can turn the nation around for better.
The officer hinted that over five military officers from the state rose to senior officers including colonels and others.
He noted that the military remained a key player in the country and should be accorded the needed recognition.
“We in the Army are not to be relegated at any point. Every other sector is important, but security is paramount when development and growth matter for the people . And it must come from one source, the military”, he said.
He further hinted that some states in the country, especially the Northern axis have adopted such as part of their agenda and added that, that was part of the reasons for their higher number in the military.
The officer also hinted that Ikwerre ethnic group has up to three of such officers promoted to top ranks in the military.
Concerning high level of insecurity in the country, he blamed it on what he described as an attempt to politicise the security sector.
He was of the view that insecurity can be brought to a halt, if those he tagged as ‘Big Boys’ in the system can surrender totally to professionals in the security sector of the country.
He appealed to all militias operating in various parts of the country to lay down their arms and suggested that conflict resolution option of peace should be considered.
