An elder statesman in the Niger Delta and the Head of the Jumbo Major House in the Grand Bonny Kindom, Rivers State, Chief Jasper Jumbo, has called on political elite in the State and region to come together and forget about the past in the interest of the State and the region.
He also urged the elite to place the State and the people first above their personal interest, and learn “what God wants them to learn”.
Jumbo, one of the founding fathers of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), who made this known while speaking to aviation correspondents in reaction to the outcome of the presidential primaries of the PDP, and that of the APC, on Friday shortly on arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, noted that it was painful to him that the two illustrious sons of the State did not win the presidential primaries, because of what played out.
“I would like to commend both of them, Governor Nyesom Wike, and Chibuike Amaechi, for letting Nigerians know that Rivers State has come of age politically, and I really commend them.
“It is not easy for them as people from the minority section of the country to get to that second positions in their primaries, and they are all young men, and the future is bright. They should not lose hope.
“Let us develop a strategy on how we can come together, as a point of unity here in the State first, because charity begins at home.
“Let the home base be strong and united. I congratulate both the sitting Governor and the former, they have done very well. God will continue to bless them, in spite of their weaknesses as humans.”
“They landed in the sky, but did not get to heaven, but that is not the end of everything. Let them continue to move ahead, never mind whatever betrayal they might have encountered”, Jumbo said.
Agreeing with Jumbo’s position, former Chief of Staff in the State, Chief Tony Okocha, also said that bye-gone should be bye-gone, so as to forge a common front.
Okocha, who interacted with newsmen, at the airport, noted that Rivers State is one political family, which is part of the Niger Delta, and expressed hope that God will help the people of the region.
