SACA Donates Books, T-ShirtsTo Bayelsa Ministry Of Education
A non-governmental organisation, Stakeholders Alliance for Corporate Accountability (SACA), has donated SACA branded note books and T-shirts to the Bayelsa Ministry Of Education for distribution to students of both public and private schools in the state.
Making the donations to the state’s Education Commissioner, Dr Gentle Emelah on Thursday in Yenagoa, the Executive Director of SACA, Mr Kingsley Ozegbe Ozegbe noted that its essence was to consolidate on the campaigns against Environmental hazards, saying that the NGO would not stop in its resolve to continue enlightening pupils and students of the state primary and secondary schools on the dangers of oil spills on the environment and human health.
“This is not the first time SACA is giving these SACA branded books and T-shirt to the ministry. We’ve held programmes on enlightenment on oil spills related Environmental hazards in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and others on several instances where T-shirts and books were also donated.
“Infact, the Hon. Commissioner for Education once told SACA that he has directed students of schools where there are SACA’S Child Safeguarding clubs to wear the SACA branded T-shirts previously given to them at least ones a week.
“So as they wearing it to schools, there peers are seeing them and so the campaign against oil spillages is being done not only in the schools, but also at home, because there peers and parents are also seeing them. This is just one amongst many other things we’re supposed to do to support the government and we know that these gestures would educate and continue to enlighten our children”, SACA said.
Receiving the donations, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Gentle Emelah who was represented by his senior aide, Mr Princewill Osobirigo commended SACA for the gesture, reassuring that the note books would be distributed to students of the state while the T-shirts would also be given to both students and even adults within the Educational sector of the state so as to fast track the campaign against oil spills.
“We commend SACA for this gesture, these donations we believe would reinforce their earlier campaigns against oil spillages in the Niger Delta region. We shall distribute these books and T-shirts to pupils and students of schools in our dear state”, he said.
The Tide reports that the Stakeholders alliance for corporate accountability (SACA) which is solely funded by Misean Cara of the republic of Ireland has been in the fore front in the campaign against oil and gas related envirimental hazards in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
