Songs, Praises As Church Celebrates Mothers’ Day
Last weekend witnessed harvest of songs and thanksgiving as the Baptist Convention Worldwide celebrated this year’s annual Mothers’ Day with the theme: ‘Women as Family Backbone’, amidst thanksgiving, praise and worship in all the Baptist Churches across the state.
In his sermon, at the First Baptist Church, Rumuche Emohua, Rivers State, the Clergy, Rev. Dr Paulinus O. Ezeonye, said, “The day is set aside by the Baptist Convention Worldwide to honour women globally for their numerous contributions towards maintenance of peace, upkeep of the family, well-being of the society and the propagation of the gospel of Christ across the world.”
The event featured gospel music fiesta, Coral rendition, Thanksgiving and Awards, among the awardees was Madam Justina Morrison Ehuruche who was elevated to the position of “Ezinne” which literally means Good Mother, Women Leader, one of the highest recognitions for women in the church.
The Vicar said the award to Madam Justina Morrison Ehuruche was based on her outstanding performance and selfless service to the growth of the Baptist Church in Emohua Community and the well-being of members of the church, among others.
The Reverend described Ezinne as a virtuous woman, as he maintained that the honour bestowed on her was well-deserved. To buttress the action of the church, Rev (Dr) Ezeonye quoted Proverbs chapter 3 vs 27-28 which states, “Do not withdraw your good to those to whom it is due when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neigbhour go and come again tomorrow when you have it with you”. He also stressed that the divine gesture would spur other women to work harder in the Lord’s vineyard.
In her vote of thanks, Madam Justina Morrison Ehuruche thanked God and the church for lifting her up among women and promised to work more for the growth of the Christian faith in Emohua Community because to whom much is given, much is also expected.
