The Rivers State Government has concluded plans for Round Two Polio Vaccination exercise for children less than five years from May 14 to 17, 2022.
This was contained in a statement by the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
The statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the board, Dr. Agiriye Harry, said the vaccination team would be in all government health facilities and on the field visiting homes and places of worship as well as special centres.
While soliciting the support of parents and care givers towards the success of the vaccination exercise, it explained that since the resurgence of circulation Vaccine Derived Polio Vaccine type 2 (c VDPV2) in Nigeria since March, 2021,”there was need for an emergency Outbreak Response (OBR) campaign with the novel Oral Polio Vaccine (nOPV2) in the country”.
According to the statement, “two rounds of OBR were carried out in some states in 2021, but the cVDPV2 was found in 27 states of the country, including the FCT in January, 2022, a situation that necessitated further outbreak response campaigns across the 36 states of the federation”.
It solicited the support of the general public towards the success of the exercise in vaccinating eligible children.
