Rivers Has Lots Of Non-Oil Exports, PHCCIMA Affirms
The President, Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), Sir Mike Elechi, has said that Rivers State is endowed with a lot of non-oil exports.
Elechi said this at a business forum organised by the chamber in Port Harcourt.
He listed some non-oil exports in the state to include fish, palm oil and prawn.
According to him, Rivers State is the largest producer of marine fish in the whole of Nigeria.
He also added that the best prawns in West Africa come from Rivers State, and stressed the need for investors to take advantage of the resources to invest in the state.
Earlier, the PHCCIMA president said the forum was in line with his administration’s commitment to hold monthly forum for investors to exchange ideas with a view to improving investment inflows to the state.
According to him,”PHCCIMA, since its establishment 63 years ago, has been meeting her objectives, and is completely committed to meeting the interests of members by helping them grow and diversify their businesses”.
He noted that the chamber was ensuring implementation of good policies by Rivers State Government geared towards the ease of doing business in the state, while promoting public and private sector partnership to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the people
Earlier, representatives of Wema Bank and First Bank called for more attention to the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
Also representative of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) called on Rivers people to be more involved in export activities.
Highpoint of the event was the induction of new members into the chamber.
