Obio/Akpor Moves To Partner Investors, Others On Agro-Allied Business
Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Barrister George Ariolu has disclosed his administration’s readiness to partner investors and organisations in the establishment of an agro-allied business in the area.
He said the partnership was necessary as it was geared towards expanding, developing and promoting commercial activities within the agricultural sector.
The chairman revealed this during an interview with newsmen at the Council Headquarters, Rumuodomaya, last Friday.
Ariolu, who led members of his cabinet and other stakeholders in the area on an inspection of some projects undertaken by the council, noted that his administration would continue to work for the overall interest of the people.
According to him, the new facelift worn by the council secretariat was as a result of what he met when he came on board last year, especially in the area of office accommodations that will house the increasing number of Federal Government agencies operating within the council premises.
He further added that the ongoing construction of 30-room office complex and completion of the Legislative building initiated by the previous administration would go a long way in addressing the issue of accommodation amongst councillors, staff, civil servants and political appointees.
Meanwhile, Ariolu during the inspection of the buildings, expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work done by the contractors, commending them over their speed in handling the project, while adding that his administration will not abandon any of its projects.
He said following identification of some structural defects in the Legislative building, measures had been taken by his administration to correct the defects which had contributed to the delay in completion of the building.
Stressing further, he disclosed that the council drainage leading to the canal at Rumuodomaya is at 60percent completion, adding that it has already started serving its purpose, which is reduction of flood within the council and its environs.
Some of the project sites visited include the Rumuolumeni Jetty waiting house, Obio/Akpor fish farm in Rumuekini and council drainage expansion.
He maintained that the construction of a waiting house at the Rumuolumeni jetty would provide succour for the people of the area who wishes to travel or carry business around the jetty.
He stated further that following the erection of the waiting house, he observed the jetty needed some reinforcements, adding that work has commenced on the jetty already.
Ariolu also called for an improved collaboration with residents and business operators to further develop, improve on its programs and policies for the people.
