NDE Trains 80 Women In Plateau

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has begun its one week training and empowerment programme for no fewer than 80 women in Plateau State.
The event, which held yesterday in Jos, had participants across the Jos North Local Council Secretariat, facilitators and members of staff of the NDE in attendance.
Malam Ibrahim Abdulaziz, the State’s NDE Coordinator, stressed the role of the organisation in empowering the citizenry.
He, therefore, called on the selected beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity given to them and to ensure they replicated the knowledge acquired from the training.
“The vision and mission of NDE is to design and implement job creation programmes that promote attitudinal change which will reduce poverty and generate employment.
“That is exactly what we have been doing for so many years. So, our coming here is deliberate. It is our work we have been doing, so I welcome you to this programme.
“The intention is for young people to be self-reliant and to generate income within your households and immediate communities,” he said
Abdulaziz added that the essence of the training would be wasted if the beneficiaries did not practicalise, and also train others around them, after acquiring the skill.
“These programmes are specially designed due to the fact that we are aware that it is the kind that would have a multiplier effect.
“The Federal Government has spent a lot of resources to ensure that you all benefit from this training.
“I hope and pray that the knowledge you acquire would not only benefit you and your immediate families but it should also be passed on to others.
“That way we all will be contributing our quota towards eradicating poverty and unemployment in our society,” he said.
Similarly, Mrs Bimbo Onorunpomi, the federal representative of NDE, reiterated that the beneficiaries must ensure they utilised the opportunity given to them.
She said this was because “it had cost the government a lot to put up the training”.
She added that several other women were sidelined for those selected, and it would be a loss if they did not utilise the opportunity given to them.
Also, Da Iliyasu Dung, the Da Manjie of Jos South Local Government Area, commended NDE for constantly carrying out such empowerment trainings for the people of Plateau, saying that “the beneficiaries must consider themselves very lucky.”
According to him, it is impossible for the Federal Government to create white collar jobs for everyone.
He added that it was therefore important that the beneficiaries took the training seriously and ensured that their lives were better for it.
One of the beneficiaries, Mary Nyam, thanked NDE for including the beneficiaries in the empowerment, and promised to ensure that the knowledge acquired would be put to diligent use.
The Tide source reports that the one week empowerment training would centre around organic perfume making, Tye and dye, bead making, etc.
