The Evo apex Traditional Ruler, Eze Gbakagbaka, King Leslie Eke has lauded the Supreme Court judgement in favour of Rivers State, and said that it was one judgment too many.
Eke made this known in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, during the week.
The Eze Oha Evo III said that the judgment has so far proven that the court was the last hope of the common man.
According to him, if judgments were delivered in same manner, that those with criminal intentions will think otherwise.
He maintained that judgment must not be bought or sold, but should be delivered on merit.
“Just like the Symbol of the Law, those in charge of delivering justice should do same without minding whose ox is gored”, he said
On the part of the Rivers State Government, he said it would not have been possible if not for the doggedness and commitment of the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
“As a lawyer, he knows the implication of losing such a property. Besides, when you know that a thing rightfully belongs to you, you imploy all known means to ensure that such property was redeemed”, he said.
The monarch, who also is the General Secretary Association of Niger Delta Monarchs of Nigeria (ANDMON), called on Nigerians to learn how to comply with the spirits and letters of the rule of law.
He was of the view that the absence of such was the reason for numerous litigations in Nigeria.
The monarch further stressed what he described as urgent need, to address similar issues in other parts of the country in order to enthrone unity.
He however, described the Sunday Thanksgiving by the Rivers State Government as paramount, and added that nothing can be possible without God.
The ownership of 17 oil wells was the issue for determination before the Supreme Court.
