Exodus Of Doctors: Association Seeks Improved Funding For Health Sector

Association of Nigeria Medical Practitioners (ANMP) has called for improve finding of the health sector to check the mass exodus of doctors from Nigeria.
President of the association,DrKay Adesola said this at a media briefing to mark the 2022 World Family Doctor Day in PortHarcourt.
Adesola said the health sector has witnessed the lowest budgetary allocations in recent years.
He also said private medical practitioners were finding it difficult to remain in business owing to the high rate of inflation in the country.
Adesola said while the government gives loan to other sectors in the country, members of the association were yet to get any support from the government in form of loans.
The president also told journalists that no member of the association has benefitted from the Federal Government N100billion COVID-19 support fund.
He said family doctors occupy an important place as far as the health of Nigerian was concerned.
According to him, “The theme for this year,‘Family Doctors,Always There to Care”rests on three pilots which include,being available at all times and caring for the health of the people.
“We, therefore, deserve to be celebrated and to as well celebrate ourselves.
“The only group of physicians that are never intimidated by the loads of undifferentiated cases thrown at us.We are, indeed, the heroes of health care”, he said.
Also speaking,Rivers State Chairman of the association, Dr Joseph Olawuyi, said the group founder since 1921 has remained the pillar of medical practice in the country.
He said this year event was the 13th edition of the World Family Doctor Day so far celebrated in the country.
Olawuyi said family doctors adapt to new changes in the treatment of patients.
