Cultism: Farah Knows Fate, Monday

A Governorship Aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers State and a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Farah Dagogo will on Monday next week know his fate on alleged cultism and felony charges brought against him by the authorities of the Nigeran police before a Port Harcourt magistrate court .
Farah was remanded in Police Custody by a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
Hon Farah who is standing trial on a two count charge of cultism and Felony was remanded in police custody by a Port Harcourt chief magisterate court last Friday.
The presiding chief magistrate of court 11, A .O Amadi-Nna ordered his remand at the police custody on the day of first arraignment following an objection of his araignment at the magistrate court by the defence counsel citing the amended magistrate court rules of practice in the state.
The defence lawyers raised the issue of lack office jurisdiction by the court based on the alleged charges brought against their client and argued that their client could not take plea before a court that has no jurisdiction to trial the matter.
Our Correspondent reports that when the PDP Governorship Aspirant Dagogo arrived court for arraignment, his team of lawyers opposed application for the charge to be read by the Prosecution Counsel Chidi Eke.
The led Counsel I. N Daye argued that since the charges were such that Magistrate Court lacked jurisdiction to hear there was no need to take a plea in the matter citing the count c and urged the court to obey the state Magistrate law.
The presiding Chief Magistrate Amadi-Nna after citing the two count charge of conspiracy to felony and cultism against the defendant could not allow the charges and cited a new rule which did not empower Magistrate Court to hear a case of cultism.
The Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna also considered information available to the court about the charge and ordered that he should be sent back to police custody and adjourned the case to 9th of May, 2022 for possible arraignment and consideration of bail.
Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, one of the defence counsels, Sugbakiriga Batubo esq who explained what transpired in court and their reasons for opposing the application of the Prosecution Counsel for the charge to be read.
On his part, the prosecution counsel Chidi Eke from the state Ministry of Justice also explained what transpired especially why the accused was remanded in police custody.
