RSHA Honours Late Onne Monarch
The Rivers State House of Assembly has held a valedictory ceremony in Port Harcourt for the Paramount Ruler of Onne Clan in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr. J.D. Osaronu, who recently passed away.
The event, which took place at the hallowed chambers of the House on Moscow Road, in Port Harcourt, last Thursday, was part of the 9th Assembly’s way of honouring the monarch, who was a member of the 2nd Assembly.
Osaronu, an octogenarian, was described by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, as one who stood for the truth at all times.
Quoting the American writer, Mark Twain who wrote: “the fear of death follows from the fear of life, a man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time” Ibani encouraged everyone to live a life worthy of emulation just as the deceased had done.
The House Majority Leader, Hon Martins Amaehule while condoling with the family of the monarch, said that the late traditional ruler, a distinguished lawyer, was popular for his selfless service towards his people.
Other House members, who eulogised the late monarch, said he was a worthy role model, especially citing the case between Okrika and Eleme at Supreme Court in 1977, which he and other lawyers defended Eleme at no cost.
Osaronu, who represented Bori Constituency in the 2nd Republic in the Rivers State House of Assembly, was the paramount ruler of Onne Kingdom until his demise in January, this year.
He would be remembered for his tireless efforts towards the upliftment of the people of Ogoni land.
