RSG Plans Another Round Of Polio Vaccination
The Rivers State Government has announced another round of polio immunisation for children of less than five year of age.
This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board.
The statement said the exercise would commence from April 9 to 12,2022.
According to the statement, the vaccination teams would be in all government health facilities, and also on the field, visiting homes, places of worship as well as special centres and schools to vaccinate children.
The statement, which solicited the support of parents and care givers, explained that with the resurgence of circulation Vaccine Derived Polio Vaccine type 2 (cVDPV2) in since March, 2021, there was need for an emergency outbreak response (OBR) campaign with the novel Oral Polio Vaccine 2 (Nopv2) in the country.
Signed by the Permanent Secretary of the board, Dr Aggriye Harry, the board noted that two rounds of OBR were carried out in some states in2021, but the Cvdpv2 was found in 27 states of the federation, including the FCT, in January, 2022,a situation that necessitated further outbreak response campaigns across the federation.
The board solicited the support of the general public to facilitate the success of the exercise.
