Rivers NLC Boss Storms NCSU Secretariat
The Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Rivers State Council, Comrade Beatrice Itubo, yesterday visited the 14 Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt Secretariat of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), as part of ongoing sensitisation of civil servants in the state.
Itubo, who was accompanied on the visit by top officials of NLC in the state, charged workers to remain resolute, firm and focused towards ensuring that they get a better deal.Itubo stressed the need for workers to remain united and committed to the ideals of a better Rivers State, contending that the sensitisation exercise was a continuous process.
Also speaking, the National Auditor of NCSU, Comrade Peaceman Horsfall thanked the NLC chairperson for the visit, and commended her for showing leadership in piloting the affairs of the union, particularly in terms of carrying along workers in the state.
Horsfall affirmed that NCSU in the state would always support the NLC leadership in its avowed determination to ensure that workers in the state are given a fair deal, even as they work hard to increase their productivity for a better state.
The NLC Chairperson, who was received by the state Chairman of NCSU, Comrade Chukwuka Osumah and other officers of the union, expressed optimism that workers in the state would smile at the end of the day, assuring that the union would explore every available channels to ensure that due process is followed in pressing home their demands for improved welfare.
She said in as much as the NLC would remain apolitical, with the countdown of the 2023 general elections, members of the union in the state would take keen interest in the political affairs of the state come 2023 to ensure that only the best emerge as political leaders of the state.
In his goodwill message, former State Chairman of NCSU and ex-officio of NLC, Comrade Opuoyibo Lilly-West commended Comrade Chukwuka Osumah for doing his best to reposition NCSU in the state, and promised to always provide logistic support to the union.
There was tight security at the NCSU secretariat during the event as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS); the police; and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) were at hand to ward off any untoward occurrences throughout the period.
