NIPR Tasks Politicians On Security
The Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, has called on political office holders in the country to up their game and make security top in their agenda in order to save the country from collapse.
Nsirim made the call during the ‘PR Moment’ monthly meeting in Port Harcourt, recently.
He pointed out that the security situation in the country has deepened and become worrisome, in that most Nigerians now live in perpetual fear.
Nsirim, who also is the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, appealed with the nation’s political leaders to give attention to the security concerns of the country.
To his members, he urged them to engage themselves in regular media advocacy in order to increase the security awareness among Nigerians.
He insisted that it was the responsibility of Public Relations practitioners to always set the agenda and put the country on the right path.
Earlier, the lead discussant of the event, Dr. Rita Inoma-Abbey, a legal practitioner and security consultant also described the security situation in the country as not only disturbing but a threat to the unity of the nation as no part of the country is safe.
Inoma-Abbey, a former image maker of the Nigerian Police Force, Rivers State Command, was also of the view that until security becomes everyone’s business, the needed result may not be achieved.
The Tide learnt that the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) was established in 1963 and later attained the status of a Chartered Institute in June 1990 through Decree No. 16 (now an Act of the National Assembly).
It was further gathered that the referenced extant law confers on the Institute the power and responsibility to register members, set parameters of knowledge to acquire to qualify to practise, regulate the practice and development of the PR profession as well monitor professional conduct through an established code of ethics, amongst others.
