The high-powered delegation of the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI), has stormed Obio/Akpor council secretariat on an assessment tour of the dividends of democracy in local government area in Rivers State.
During the visit, the delegation ably led by the President-General of the group, Hon Bright Amaewhule, assessed the projects and programmes being executed by the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Barrister George Ariolu.
Impressed by the type and quality of work being carried out after a round of project tour, Amaewhule poured encomiums on Ariolu for conceptualising and executing key projects that have direct bearing on the lives, well-being and development of the people of Obio/Akpor area.
The visit, which also served as an official congratulatory visit to the council chairman on his electoral victory at the 2021 Local Government Area Elections in Rivers State, saw Amaewhule laud the administration for renovating and remodelling buildings and offices within the council secretariat; revamping the moribund Obio/Akpor Fish Farm; provision of transformers for restoration of electric power in affected communities; instituting scholarship programmes and education endowment fund for indigenes and residents; professional skills acquisition and youth empowerment programmes; logistics support for security agencies and outfits, among others.
For championing the level of sustainable development in the area, Amaewhule stated that Ariolu has proven beyond doubts to be a true foot soldier of the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who is a known stickler for grassroots development, critical infrastructure provision and human capital development.
Also mentioned was the chairman’s frontal fight against oil bunkering activities and artisanal oil refineries’ proliferation in Obio/Akpor, all in a bid to create and sustain a healthy living space for indigenes and residents of the area.
The GDI delegation, which had other national officers in the team, recently visited Emohua, Asari-Toru, and Port Harcourt City local government areas for the same assessment purpose that is already serving as a peer review mechanism to ensure high performance of all council chairmen in Rivers State.
