Discussants Harp On Qualities Of Godly Marriage
Discussants on Singles Time Out, a programme organised by Diocese of Niger Delta North Women Ministry, have called on youths to seek the face of God in searching for their life partners as Christian marriage is a covenant relationship based on promises and commitment.
Senator Betty Apiafi, Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Lady Christy Onabu, Venerable Ikye Egbeonu, and Joe Praise, dropped the hint while speaking as guest speakers on the Ultimate Search at Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Diobu, Port Harcourt, recently.
Apiafi told the youths not to only look at the physical compatibility in the choice of a spouse but to look out for spiritual compatibility to fulfil the will of God in marriage.
She warned against deceitfulness in marriage and challenged couples to be disciplined and innovative in their relationship.
On her part, Lady Christy Onabu, said, for marriage to work, each partner must identify his identity in Jesus Christ, noting that knowing one’s identity as a single before marriage places the individual in a better position to deal with marital challenges as they surface.
Also, Egbeonu underscored the import of love in marriage, emphasising that lack of genuine love in marriage was the reason many couples struggle and endure their marriages.
He posited that if couples would love as Christ loved the church there would never be room for divorce and separation.
Also speaking, Praise urged youths not to underestimate the place of prayer in the choice of a partner, noting that God alone knows the heart of man.
Praise said that divine direction has averted wrong choices in marriage.
The discussants asked the youths to avoid human connection in marriage as experience has shown that such marriages end in divorce.
They outlined attributes to look out for in a Godly relationship to include, having love for Christ, bearing the fruits of the spirit and obeying the teachings of Christ in its ramifications as well as the fear of God in all their endeavours.
