Police Arrest Three Persons Over Killing Of Military Officer In EMOLGA

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three persons who allegedly shot and killed a soldier, late Darlington Worehu in Obele community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, over the weekend.
The acting spokesperson of the command,DSP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed this in an interview with newsmen in her office in Port Harcourt, saying that the three suspects were currently being detained at the State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (SCIIB)in Port Harcourt.
According to her, investigations were ongoing and the suspects were cooperating on the investigation, and have given credible information,adding that the outcome of the investigation would be made public in due course.
The suspected members of local vigilantes, OSPAC were allegedly said to have shot dead one Darlington Worehu,a Nigerian soldier in Obele,Emohua Local Government Area on Saturday night.
According to a former Caretaker Chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC) in Obele, Eze Israel Anele, who is the deceased soldier’suncle who confirmed it, said that the soldier was on his way home at about 10:30pm on Saturday night when he saw members of OSPAC holding some of his relatives.Anele disclosed that the Army officer alighted from the vehicle and approached the vigilante members to enquire about the reason behind their action,addingthat an argument ensued between them, and one of the vigilante members reportedly shothim on the chest and head while two of his relatives sustained gunshot injuries.
The former CDC chief, who is also an ex-DPO, said some angry youth in the community, on hearing the news of the soldier’s death, mobilised, and went to the OSPAC office, and destroyed it.
He further revealed that the OSPAC members have deserted the village while the police and the Nigerian Army were in the community in search of the OSPAC members.
The late soldier, Darlington Worehu was serving at Niger State but was officially granted pass to attend to some personal issues at home.
The spokesperson for the 6 Division, Nigerian Army,Lt.-Col Charles Ekeocha, has not responded to text messages sent to his mobile line by our reporter as at press time.
