NUGA 2022: UNIPORT Emerges Champion

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has won the 26th edition of the Nigeria University Games (NUGA) 2022, hosted by University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka. It emerged victors from a total of 76 universities across the country.
The institution went home with a trophy for being overall winners, making it the first time a winner would be awarded a trophy in the history of the games. University of Lagos (UNILAG) came second, while Nile University Abuja placed third. They all went home with trophies. Benson Idahosa University was adjudged the Best Behaved University at the games.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, noted that the successful hosting of the games ranks Nigeria, the institution, and Nigerian students among the best in the world.
He hailed the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for supporting the games despite the ongoing strike.
“I thank God for the success of the games.  We have been able to prove to the world that in UNILAG, we can handle any event or anything without hitch. We have been able to showcase that Nigerian students are the best, when they go outside, they perform. I thank ASUU for not stopping the games. I thank all the unions for their support,” he said.
Ogundipe also stated that two athletes from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, proposed to each other. This he said would be unforgettable in the lives of the duo.
