The Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), has said that the fire incident that gutted its dump yard in Iriebe, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state was sabotage and not accidental.
The spokesman of the command, Mr Ayodeji Olufemi, stated this while confirming the fire incident and said that it was caused by saboteurs.
According to Olufemi, the level of damage by the fire cannot be ascertained at the moment, but that men of the Federal Fire Service who were on ground, helped to put the fire under control.
However, an eyewitness said that the fire started with an explosion which later engulfed the entire area including vehicles parked in the yard.
He revealed that over 30 seized trucks loaded with products suspected to be Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) were destroyed by the fire.
