The Niger Delta Diocese of St Stephen’s Cathedral, Church of Nigeria, Bonny, has named the Chairman of Bonny Local Government, Dame Anengi Barasua as its Mother of the Year 2022.
The church made this known during a special thanksgiving service, put together to mark this year’s Mothering Sunday and celebrate the progressive sacrifices women deploy in the family and societal circles.
Presenting the award christened; “Deborah of Our Generation”, yesterday, in Bonny Island, the President of the Mother’s Union Guild (MU/G) of Stephen’s Cathedral, Bonny, Lady Lillian Erewarifagha Hart said the honour to Barasua was in recognition of her contributions to the growth of youths, women and the church in general, which had resulted in her distinction among her contemporaries in Rivers State, adding that she was a mother worthy of emulation.
Responding, Chairman of Bonny Local Government, Dame Anengi Barasua recalled the virtues and attributes inculcated in her by her late mother, Mrs Elsie Barasua, which was paying off in her current experiences, pledging to continue living a life that pleases God.
She stated that the honour meant the most to her given that it emanated from God’s vineyard, praying for His grace to continue in upright service to the people.
The service was graced by the wife of the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Lady Rose Ikuinyi-Awaji Ibani; the Leader of Bonny Legislative Assembly, Hon. Larry Ibaningo; and other members of the 9th Assembly; Chairman of Bonny Chiefs Council, Se-Alabo Dagogo Claude-Wilcox; and other titled citizens; a former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly; Hon Aye Pepple, among other government functionaries, parishioners, friends and well-wishers.
