2022 UTME: JAMB Targets 1.5m Registration ….As Candidates Commend Efforts
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that it is targetted at registering 1.5 million candidates for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Registrar, JAMB. Prof. Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this during the Registration Monitoring Exercise in Bwari, Abuja,Thursday.
Oloyede, said however that so far it has registered over 500,000 candidates, expressing hopes that it would meet its target of 1.5 million candidates before its deadline fixed for March 26, 2022.
While revealing that the board planned to register at least 50,000 candidates per day, Oloyede said it has succeeded in registering about 70,000 in two days.
Oloyede noted that the exercise had been mostly successful, stating however that 99 percent of the problems encountered by candidates were self-inflicted as they played themselves into the hands of fraudsters.
The JAMB registrar who warned the candidates against divulging their codes to third parties further urged parents to ensure that their children read and follow the registration instructions carefully to avoid being victims of fraudsters.
Oloyede said” so far, so good, we have registered over 500,000 candidates. We are expecting about 1.5 million or thereabouts. We still have more than 12 days to go and if things continue to move smoothly, we plan to register 50,000 per day. Two days ago, it was over 70,000. We believe today we should be able to register 70,000″.
“I am happy you were able to talk to candidates who had problems. You saw that 99 percent of the problems were self-inflicted and it is because they played into the hands of fraudsters. As they divulge their codes to these third parties, they use their information to manipulate their profiles to their detriment and even go back to blackmail them”, he stated.
Some candidates confirmed to
TheTide in PortHarcourt that the registration exercise has less hitches as against the past and urged the board to continue in its efforts for a total hitch free exercise.
