UNIPORT Names Seven Professors, Six Readers …Wins 2022 All Nigeria Universities Debate Championship

The Management of the University of Port Harcourt has announced the elevation of seven persons to the Professoriate of the university.
The institution made this known in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Sam Kpenu, and titled, “Professorial Promotion Announcement”, last Friday.
The statement listed the affected officers as:Dr. Nwala Michael Alozie, Dr.Joab-Peterside Sofiri, Dr.Alex-Hart A. Balafama, Dr.Njoku Ugochi Joyce, Dr. Kamalu Ikenna, Dr. Onumajuru Chinwe Virginia, and Dr Lawrence Chijioke Chukwu.
The statement explained that while Dr Nwala Michael Alozie is now a Professor of Comparative Grammar, Dr. Joab-Peterside Sofiri is the new Professor of Sociology of Development, just as Dr Alex-Hart Balafama is now Professor of Paediatrics.
It further noted that Dr Njoku Ugochi Joyce is the new Professor of Educational Psychology; Dr Kamalu Ikenna now a Professor of Disclosure – Stylistics and Cultural Semiotics; Dr Anumajuru Chinwe, now a Professor of Linguistics and Communication Studies while Dr Lawrence Chijioke Chukwu is now a Professor of Biochemistry.
Kpenu further stated that those promoted to the Rank of Readers, include, Dr Odili Jones Ugochukwu in Church History and Historiography; Dr Fomsi Esther – Educational Technology; Dr Uche Chukwu – Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry; Dr Okanezi Bright – Sociology of Education; Dr Stephen M.Anurudu – Language and Linguistics; while Dr Gbarakoro Nornu Tambeke has been promoted to the Rank of a Reader in Agricultural Entomology.
The announcement is sequel to the approval of the new procedure of Professorial promotion and the recent positive results from External Assessors, the statement said.
“The Vice Chancellor, Prof Owunari Georgewill, has on behalf of the council and management, congratulated the new Professors and Readers, and wished them well.Congratulations,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has emerged winner of 2022 All Nigeria Universities Debate Championship.
In a statement, UNIPORT’s Public Relations Officer, Sam Kpenu, said the institution came first out of the 30 Nigerian universities that took part in the championship at Illorin, the Kwara State capital.
Kpenu, in a statement, last Saturday, quoted the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, as congratulating the debate team and its handlers for the great achievement.
The VC said: “I commend the team and the handlers for bringing this honour to the university. We are indeed very proud of you.
“I am impressed with your performance and as a university; we will do anything that will promote academic excellence in line with the mandate of the university.”
The statement added: “The University of Port Harcourt has a verifiable history and experience in rising to the big occasion when it comes to competing. Our debate team has redefined and conquered the debating frontiers among universities in Nigeria”.
