RSG Harps On Training For Housing Professionals

Rivers State Commissioner of Housing, Elder Chinedu Nwobueze, has called on civil servants, especially those in the built environment, to ensure they make professional training a priority.
Nwobueze, who made the call while playing host to the newly elected officials of Nigerian Institution of Quantity Surveyors, Rivers State chapter, in his office in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
He announced that the ministry boasts of a good number of seasoned professionals in the built industry, adding that they were assigned to give their expertise in the different projects and infrastructure the governor was embarking upon in the different parts of the state.
The commissioner reiterated that civil servants need to make the necessary sacrifices to have themselves properly in tune with the latest developments and challenges in their professions, insisting that one way of doing that was by belonging to a professional body.
Nwobueze advised the workers in the ministry to ensure that they avail themselves of opportunities to train and retrain themselves so as to be relevant in their professions, saying that the benefits of such sacrifices were enormous, especially in the long run.
The commissioner pledged the support of the ministry to those who were willing and ready to develop themselves professionally, encouraging everyone in the built environment to ensure they were part of the investiture of the newly elected officials of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors.
He said that the lead speaker at the event would deal with a challenging but germane topic in the industry.
Nwobueze, who congratulated the executive officers of the institution, called on them make ethical practice and professionalism their focus.
Earlier, the newly elected President of the institution in Rivers State, Benjamin Woke, who led other officials on the visit, commended the commissioner for his dexterity and forthrightness.
Woke commended the state government for making use of quantity surveyors in its employ, and heeding to their professional advice, saying that they have contributed in the type of quality projects that were littered all over the state.
He specially commended the professional way the Ministry of Housing has handled the Chinwe Aguma SAN Judges’ Quarters, Rumuwoji International Market, Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters, among others, calling for collaboration and synergy between the ministry and the institution.
The officials used the visit to invite the commissioner and staff of the ministry to the investiture of the new president and his officials, today, and that of the women chapter of the institution, tomorrow.
At the visit were directors of the ministry, officials of the institution, and quantity surveyors of the ministry.
