RSG Charges Corps Members On Patriotism

The Rivers State Government has charged outgoing Corps members in the state to shun any forms of negative tendencies that will tarnish the image of the country.
The State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike gave the advice during the passing out parade of 2021 Batch A stream 1 corps members deployed to Rivers State.
“ I implore you all to shun all forms of negative tendencies that will tarnish the image of the country among the comity of nations.”
“ Ensure that you avoid vices such as indiscipline, corruption, bribery, nepotism and religious bigotry among others.
The Governor represented by Permanent Secretary Special Services Bureau, Office of the secretary to the state Government Dr. George Nwaeke said, his administration will continue to hold the NYSC Scheme in high esteem and will never hesitate to make investments to improve its operations programmes and activities.
He also charged the out going corpers to always ensure an efficient service delivery to humanity wherever they find themselves.
“ To achieve the goals you must remain focused disciplined, patriotic and peace loving at all times,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, seven corps members have had their service extended from one month to four months on half pay for failing to live up to expectations.
State Coordinator of NYSC Mr. George Mfonyang who said this during the parade listed the offences of the seven corps members to range from absconding from service to unauthorised journey and other miscellaneous offences.
He said some of the corps members adapted very well and served the good people of the state with remarkable energy, commitment, passion, enthusiasm and great love.
According to him, “they are leaving behind in the communities where they served, indelible footprints in the areas of education, health care, agriculture and rural infrastructure”.
He specially mentioned the case of a corps member, Bilqees Lawal who built a water borehole at Kpong Community, Khana Local Government Area.
Mfonyang said many corps members have also intervened in the areas of environmental sustainability enlightenment campaigns, teenage pregnancy, rapes, drug abuse, female gental mutilation, skill acquisition training, economic empowerment, among others.
A total of 1,458 corps members took part in the exercise.
