One Dies, Two Burnt At Obio/Akpor Illegal Refinery Storage Site

One person has lost his life from a fire incident that rocked an illegal petroleum refinery storage dump site at Mgbuosimini-Rumueme community in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The fire outbreak, which occurred, last Thursday night, also left two other victims in critical condition from the fire explosion.
The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Barrister George Ariolu, who visited the scene located at No. 21, Nkem Close, Mgbuosimini-Rumueme community within the area, lamented the damage and loss of life.
He said the council had sealed off the premises, and would as well go after the operators of the illicit refinery site.
Ariolu also urged residents to help the council and the state government by giving information on where illegal refining of petroleum products istaking place, and or are stored.
On his part, the Chief Security Officer of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Mr. Felix Ochonma, said he and members of his team would work tirelessly in order to rid the area of such illicit trade, and those bent on getting rich quick at the expense of people’s lives.
A suspect, who was apprehended at the site of the incident, Jasper Ozekhome, admitted knowing the owner of the property, but denied being involved in the illicit trade.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman, Ichenwo Goodluck, last Friday, said the identity of the victims was unknown.
He, however, said that eye witnesses have confirmed that the victims were taken to Palmers Hospital where one of the suspects was pronounced dead, last Friday morning.
