Ondo Govt Warns Against Encroachment On Land Designated For Airport
Ondo State Government has warned the public to desist from buying or selling a Federal Government land in Igodanlisa, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state, as it has been designated for airport.
Special Adviser to the State Governor on Transportation, Mr Tobi Ogunleye, gave the warning on Thursday, while on an inspection visit to the site, following its upgrade to a full-fledged airport by the federal government.
The land had, in 1975, been earmarked for building an aerodrome before it was later approved for airport.
Ogunleye said that the federal government had, through the National Council on Transportation, urged the state government to set up a technical committee to interface with its technical committee on the construction of the airport.
The governor’s aide noted that the land had seriously been encroached on by the people, as many buildings had been erected there.
He, therefore, implored the people to stop the encroachment on the site, stating that the federal government would soon commence work there.
Ogunleye warned that anyone buying any portion at the site was doing so at his or her own risk, as government was not selling the land.
According to him, anyone caught trespassing on the land will be prosecuted.
He advised the public to always verify the authenticity of any land from the appropriate quarters before making payment.
Speaking earlier, the Site Engineer, Dr Pius Omoge, noted that the airport would bring development to the state in particular and the South-West zone at large.
He appealed for mutual cooperation between Igodanlisa community and the technical committee that would be involved in the development of the airport project.
