Initiative Boss Makes Case For ICT Dev
The President, Community Reformed Youth Initiative (CRYI), Gogo Wenike-Briggs, has said Information Communication Technology (ICT) is capable of improving the economic status of Rivers State, if given the required attention.
Wenike-Briggs, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday, said ICT is now a basic support system for any business growth.
Consequently, he said, governments at all levels ought to fully adopt application of ICT in all its sectors.
“For example, the State Government should install automated systems for traffic offenders, monitoring construction and businesses, environmental control, and many more areas”, he said .
He called on the State Government to update what he described as ‘property roll” in order to increase its revenue base.
“The only way to do this is using an automated process. Lack of automation aids and abets corruption in revenue collection and conveyance which are both tremendous hindrances in doing business in the State”, he said.
Presenting what he profers as a solution to the challenge, he said there should be a provision of world class connectivity at competitive prices in ICT services in the State.
Wenike-Briggs, an Engineer, applead to the State Government to work with the private sector to ensure availability of wireless internet services in public offices and public facilities, including parks and transport facilities.
According to him, there should also be plans to put in place a wide Area Network Connectivity to connect all state institutions, which, he said, will among others create jobs for the unemployed.
