Ex- Football Star Tasks Eguma, Players On Hard Work
An ex-soccer star in Rivers State, Christian Isaac believes that Rivers United Football has a brighter chance of not only going places but winning the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) trophy this year, if only the technical crew led by Stanley Eguma will not rest on their oars in continuing harnessing the skills seen among the players in the team.
Making this remark at the side line of Adokiye Amiesimaka, Stadium, Port Harcourt last Saturday after watching Rivers United FC thrashed visiting Wikki Tourists of Bauchi 3-0 in week 12 of the NPFL game, Isaac noted that it was not in doubt that Rivers United players were good in all the departments of the game except that the onus lies on the desk of the coaches to do more in reading the match proceedings very well in order to effect the necessary changes as at when due.
“Though, Coach Eguma is doing well but my argument is that he can do better by harnessing the great football skills in the players who are rearing and eager to go to the continent again this year”.
Answering questions later, the ebullient sports built Isaac admitted that the standard of Nigeria league this year has improved though opted that something needs to be done to see how the interest in English Premier League among Nigerian soccer fans could be played down a little.
“Truly, Nigerian league players are poorly paid and I can assure you that if good money is pumped into the Nigerian league today, one would not be surprised to see the boys playing out their heart to the admiration of fans which will attract sponsors, coming in to invest in the league game,” he stated.
He, nevertheless, charged players of Rivers United to strive hard even as all eyes are on them to see how they could sustain their good run in the ongoing league to the end of the season.
“Believe me, if Rivers United players continue to play well, individuals will surely be moved to come forward to appreciate them and the boys will also stand a better chance of getting invitations outside the country to ply their trade with big clubs,” the soccer pundit added.
