The director of Vendyke FC of Port Harcourt, Benjamin Iyama has back the reappointment of Augustine Eguaveon as the interim technical adviser of the Nigeria Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
According to him, Eguaveon performance in the just concluded Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Cameroon was not too poor adding that he didn’t blamed Eguaveon for Eagles elimination but the players.
Iyama said this yesterday in a telephone interview with Tidesports shortly after NFF confirmed Eguaveon as interim technical adviser and Emmanuel Amuneke, appointed as his assistant.
The director explained that, Eguaveon would learn a lot of lessons from the just concluded AFCON and ensure that the team goes back to its winning ways.
He called on Eguaveon to include home base players in his team, saying that he is in full support and believed that he do well subsequently.
He equally said that AFCON has come and gone it is high time Super Eagles focus on qualification for FIFA World Cup against Black Stars of Ghana next month.
“Not that the Super Eagles were eliminated from the AFCON in the round of 16 in Cameroon that made Eguaveon not a good coach but our boys (players) underrated their opponents.
The facts remains that a lots has happened in the team before Eguaveon was given the mantle of the leadership.
I support the NFF because I know Eguaveon will bring in our home base players in the team” Iyama said.
