Abua/Odual LG, Rivers Assembly Partner To End ‘Kpo Fire’ Operations
The Joint Committee on Environment and Energy and Natural Resources in the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Hon. Dumle Maol, has interacted with the Chairman of Abua/Odual Local Government Council, Hon. Daniel Otupo Daniel at the Council Secretariat, Abua, with an understanding to work together to end the illegal activities of ‘kpo fire’ operators in the area.
Maol is the member representing Gokana State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The Assembly and the council authorities struck the deal during a visit in furtherance of the resolution of the House that the Joint Committee monitors the progress and compliance level of different local government councils with the directive of Governor Nyesom Wike on the menace of soot occasioned by the activities of illegal refineries in the state.
Daniel told the committee members that they have destroyed the illegal refineries within the Abua locality, adding that there were no artisanal refineries operating in the area presently.
He further told them that the task force has also destroyed some artisanal refineries in the creeks of Odual section of the LGA.
Daniel lamented the poor collaboration of security agencies to apprehend those involved in the trucking of refined products through the communities in the area.
Responding, Chairman of the committee, Hon. Dumle Maol, thanked the council chairman for his continued commitment towards curbing all illicit oil bunkering activities in the area, and assured of members’ support at all times to enable the local government authorities eliminate all forms of illegal refinery operations in the area.
The delegation included Hon Mathew Nenubari Dike, Hon Evans Bipi, Hon Christian Ahiakwor, Hon Samuel Ogeh, Lolo Isaiah Opuende, Hon Prince Ngbor, Hon Sokolo Solomon, Mrs Ammonia Amaso (attorney), Mr. Zaga Phimia, and Mrs Harris.
