35-Year-Old Man In Prison Over Murder, Cultism In PH
A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Gift C. Amadi has remanded one Confidence Kirinee, to Port Harcourt Correctional Centre for allegedly killing one Muenalo Sunday and also beheaded him by shooting him with AK 47 in 2019.
The accused is standing trial on a six-count charge bordering on murder, cultism, kidnapping and conspiracy among others before a State chief magistrate court.
It was alleged that the accused on the 5th March, 2019 in Zaakpor community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State did belong to one of the cult groups, terrorising the Zaakpor community did murdered the late Sunday Muenalo of same community with some of his cult gang members.
According to the charge sheet, “that you Confidence Kirinee, alias ,”IILA “M and others now in Port Harcourt correctional Centre via a charge No PHC 77c /2021on or before the 5th March, 2019 at Zaakpor Community in Khana LGA within Port Harcourt magisterial district did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: cultism and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 9(c) of the secret cult and similar activities (prohibition) laws of Rivers State No. 7 of 2018 as amended.
The accused also allegedly committed an offence punishable under section 1(1)of the secret cult and similar activities (prohibition )laws of Rivers State No.7 of 2018 as amended, section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37,Vol 11, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2006 and section 324 of the criminal code.
However, when the case was mentioned in the court Monday, the presiding Chief Magistrate of Court 14, Gift C. Amadi Esq, did not allow the charge to be read to the accused, declined jurisdiction and directed that the case file be transmitted to Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and ordered that the accused be remanded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
The presiding chief magistrate adjourned the matter to 21st of March, 2022 for mention.
