A former agitator of Ogoni extraction, Chief Solomon Ndigbara, has called on political parties and politicians to consider Ogoni for governorship in the 2023 general elections.
Ndigbara made the call, Wednesday, at his hometown, Yeghe, in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State while chatting with newsmen.
According to him, Ogoni people have been denied many opportunities to be governor of the state.
He said Ogonis were not only denied governorship position but subjected to humiliation, poverty, political crisis and killings, calling on Ogoni politicians to unite and shun selfish interests to move Ogoni and Rivers State to greater heights.
Ndigbara commended Governor Nyesom Wike for considering Ogoni in his developmental strides, saying that the Governor is the first governor to embark on projects that have direct impact on the people of Ogoni and the Rivers South-East Senatorial District in general.
“I want political parties and political actors to consider Ogoni this time around for governorship.
“Ogoni is one of the major ethnic nationalities in Rivers State, but they are being denied governorship position in the state.
“The people of Ogoni are not only denied governorship position but subjected to political crisis, poverty,  and humiliation.
“Ogoni politicians should come together to fight a common cause that will liberate Ogoni politically.
“I’m saying this because time has come for politicians to decieve the youths to cause crisis in Ogoni while manipulating their ways into Ogoni land, this must stop”, he said.
The traditional ruler also called on Ogoni politicians to work with other ethnic groups to realise Ogoni governorship aspiration, saying that Ogoni alone cannot achieve it without the support of other sections of the state.
