A Port Harcourt based lawyer and human rights crusader, Mr Blessing Enyie, has called on the Rivers State government to monitor, closely, the acquisition of land in Egbeda, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Mr. Enyie, who stated this while speaking with The Tide expressed regret the agents of Polo Cico Ltd were swindling the people.
He noted that it was very unfortunate that those who were in charge of the acquisition did not want lawyers to various families to take part in the negotiations so they would not discover a plethora of fraud.
The Port-Harcourt based lawyer said the agents had formed a cabal to expropriate land from the community.
He said the Polo Cico Ltd had acquired much of the people’s land for free.
He sited a situation where some people had more than four  hundred plots of land but were paid for only 221 plots.
Enyie Esq also sited a situation where bank managers were demanding gratification before they released money to beneficial land owners.
He noted that family members were squaring up to petition to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over fraudulent transactions in the acquisition process.
He remarked that the fraud was perpetrated at the connivance of certain chiefs in the community.
He said a particular chief had become ubiquitous in all transactions in the community and expressed surprise that the agents of Polo Cico Ltd could allow that to happen.
