Court Remands Two In Custody Over Forgery
An Isiokpo Magistrate Court in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has remanded two persons to Ahoada Correctional centre on allegation of forgery and conspiracy
The two accused persons, Chima Wonu and Favour Abraham are standing trial on two count charge of conspiracy and forgery.
According to the charges read out in court, the two suspects were alleged to have on the 30th of December, 2021 at Omagwa Community in the area, conspired and forged Deed of Conveyance, stamps with a lawyer seal purporting to be original document, thereby committing an offence punishable under a section of Administration of Criminal Justice laws of Rivers State 2015.
However when the charge was read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Lawrence Isikaku after listening to the bail application by the defence counsel and argument by representative of Nigerian Bar Association adjourned the case till 13th of January, 2022 for bail consideration and ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Ahoada Correctional centre till the adjourned date
The Legal Adviser, Geoffrey Obodowho Kashmia Ofurum who actually apprehended the accused persons while narrating how they were apprehended, said the case will serve as deterrent to quakery and others who are in the business of demarketing the law profession.
Also speaking in the courtroom, the Chairman of NBA, Isiokpo Branch, Promise Ichegbo said they are joining in prosecuting the matter as sign of warning to surveyors who impersonate the legal profession.
Counsel to the accused declined comment on the court proceedings.
